Unitree G1 Basic EDU – A Compact Research Platform for Humanoid Robotics
The Unitree G1 Basic EDU is designed for research institutions, universities, and developers looking to use humanoid robotics as an open development platform. Built around a humanoid robot measuring approximately 1.32 m in height and weighing around 35 kg, the platform features 23 degrees of freedom in its base configuration and can be used for motion research, autonomous navigation, and AI applications. Unlike systems primarily intended for demonstrations, the EDU version focuses on enabling users to develop their own applications. The platform supports research projects in areas such as Embodied AI, Reinforcement Learning, Imitation Learning, and sensor fusion. This allows users to develop custom algorithms, train motion models, and evaluate new human-robot interaction concepts under real-world conditions.

Expandable Platform for Manipulation and AI Projects
The G1 Basic EDU is designed with future expansion in mind, offering significantly greater flexibility than the standard base version. Depending on the configuration, additional degrees of freedom, optional wrist axes, and dexterous robotic hands can be integrated. Supported options include the Unitree Dex3-1 three-finger hand as well as other compatible research and gripping systems. This enables applications such as mobile manipulation, object handling, pick-and-place experiments, and AI-powered interaction scenarios. More powerful computing modules can also be integrated for research projects requiring advanced perception and decision-making capabilities. As a result, the platform can scale alongside the growing requirements of research and development projects.

Unitree G1 Basic EDU – Advanced Sensors for Perception and Navigation
To support autonomous functionality, the G1 Basic EDU integrates multiple sensors directly into the platform. Standard equipment includes a depth camera, a 3D LiDAR system, a four-microphone array, and a speaker for voice-based and interactive applications. These sensors provide the foundation for environmental perception, obstacle detection, localization, and navigation. An integrated high-performance CPU complements the sensor suite by processing motion control and AI applications locally on the robot. This makes the platform suitable for both autonomous mobility research and the development of custom perception and interaction algorithms. The combination of sensing capabilities and mobility enables realistic testing beyond purely virtual simulation environments.

The Unitree G1 Basic EDU - Designed for ROS and Secondary Development
One of the key advantages of the G1 Basic EDU is its strong focus on Secondary Development and software engineering. The platform is designed for ROS and ROS 2-based applications and enables the integration of custom software modules into research and development environments. Compared to the G1 Basic, the EDU version emphasizes enhanced developer access, SDK functionality, and programming interfaces. This allows users to create customized control, perception, and navigation solutions and test them directly on the humanoid robot. For universities, AI laboratories, and robotics developers, the platform provides a flexible development environment that supports everything from initial proof-of-concept projects to advanced research programs.
